Just like you have bitter relatives who are kinda mean, all the major keys also have something known as relative minors. They are related because they have all the same notes in them, only difference is the order of these notes which makes them sound different. Just like who you and your sibling might share some similar characteristic.
FINDING THE TONIC OF A RELATIVE MINOR KEY
I hope you remember what a TONIC or DOH is, well either way it's basically the root or first note of a scale/key. And we can easily find the relative minor of any note by simply counting down three semitones.
Over here, you can see that we have counted down 3 semitones from the root C to get it's relative minor which is A minor.
We went from C ---(1 semitone)---> B ---(1 semitone)---> Bb ---(1 semitone)---> A (minor)
FINDING THE TONIC OF A RELATIVE MAJOR KEY
Here, we do the exact opposite of what we did for finding the root of the Relative Minor key. Now we Count up three semitones to get the root of the relative major.
Over here, you can see that we have counted up 3 semitones from the root A to get it's relative major which is C major.
We went from A ---(1 semitone)---> Bb ---(1 semitone)---> B ---(1 semitone)---> C (major)
now I've told you bout relative major and minor and you know bout the major keys from the beginner level, but what is a minor key ? Well we'll figure that out in the next lesson, so lesssgoooooo
PEACE ! 🎼 👈 that’s a treble clef btw :)
