NoteHeads is a student-led music education platform that helps you understand, learn, and apply both Western and Hindustani music theory. It’s designed to make complex musical concepts simple, visual, and accessible — whether you’re a beginner exploring your first stave, or an intermediate learner studying scales and intervals.
You can explore full, structured lessons in:
Western Music Theory — notes, staves, clefs, rests, accidentals, intervals, key signatures, and analysis.
Hindustani Music Theory — swaras, thaats, raags, and foundational concepts of Indian classical music.
Each section is divided into Beginner and Intermediate levels, allowing learners to progress at their own pace.
NoteSwap™ is a companion tool developed by the NoteHeads team. It’s a notation converter that bridges Western and Hindustani music systems — helping musicians translate between C–D–E–F–G–A–B and Sa–Re–Ga–Ma–Pa–Dha–Ni–Sa formats. It’s perfect for students learning cross-notation or composers working with fusion music.
NoteHeads is made for:
Music students who want to understand notation deeply.
Teachers looking for structured and accurate lessons.
Beginners learning their first instrument.
Musicians exploring the bridge between Indian and Western theory.

Note to the Heads
As a violinist trained primarily in Hindustani music and familiar Only with bargam notations, I found Note Heads to be an incredibly helpful and refreshing platform.
The website's aesthetics are really nice-clean, easy to use and visually engaging. The diagrams and notes are clear, making explanations easy to grasp. It's definitely NOT boring like other study sites. You can tell the co-founders have put real effort into making it both attractive and educational.
Even without videos or audios, the conversational writing style makes learning feel personal, almost as if someone is teaching me. The test paper after all lessons along with the answer key is a big plus point.
Once I am done learning Western Music Theory, I hope to explore Hindustani theory and articles on the site as well. Hoping that they Come soon.
Another standout feature is Note Swap, a linked tool that helps Convert Sargam notations into Western Notations and vice versa. When you upload an image of the notations, it recognizes notes, and outputs them in either system. One can also type out the notes and get the output. I would prefer typing the notes as sometimes the CV program adds unnecessary notes while recognizing the notes in the image.
If you love music like me, Note Heads is a really cool way to learn and practice.

The very idea of a website such as noteheads is very new and exciting to me. As a violinist and music enthusiast, I have always been interested to deeper understand the world of music, but have found very little opportunity to do so. This website gives me the chance which I can't find elsewhere.
Not only are their articles informative and helpful but they are also presented in a humorous and engaging manner which makes the whole process fun. Even people with no prior musical knowledge can understand and learn easily.
My favorite feature is definitely noteswap, as someone who has to constantly convert western notations into sargam ones, this is a lifesaver. The conversion is convenient and easy to do. With the addition of features such as sheet music convers, it could save me a lot of time and effort.
Overall I think it is an amazing website for one and all, and has incredible potential to turn into something big.
